Drupal CMS MediaFront & OSM Install Guide
Installation
Step 1: Installing Drupal
To install the MediaFront Module with the Drupal CMS, you first need to install and set up Drupal. If you already have Drupal installed on your site then you may jump to Step 2, but if you would like some more information on installing Drupal visit http://drupal.org.
Step 2: Installing the MediaFront Module
We are pleased to say that the MediaFront Module does not need any supporting modules to setup on your site and works 100% out of the box with what you get when you download the module files. You may download the files here (a link to DL page) or from http://drupal.org/project/mediafront
Place the entire MediaFront folder into your sites/all/modules directory.
Now go to Admin >> Site Building >> Modules and enable the MediaFront Module. Also enable the Open Standards Media Player listed under MediaFront: Players and the desired plugins listed under the MediaFront: Plugins sectoion.
*It is also recommended to install the following modules in order to be able to easily display MediaFront. They include:
-
Drupal 6
-
Drupal 7
Set up:
Pre-setup
It may be useful to go through the Setting up Drupal for MediaFront tutorial.
Step 1: Creating a preset
Go to Admin >> Site Building >> MediaFront Presets and click the tab to Add preset.
Give your preset a name and description, make sure the Open Standard Media Player is selected under the Media Player: drop down box, and click next.
You will now see a preview of what the player will look like along with an expandable list or options listed under Preset Settings. If you chose, you may skip these and click Save Preset to quickly generate the player it the default settings.
Step 2: Preset Settings
The presets are fully customizable through the settings page for each preset. You can have as many variations of the OMS player on your site as you like, each with their own unique preset settings.
Preset Information allows you to add a description to your preset for future reference.
The Player Settings are broken down into easily navigated categories to help make customizing your player a quick and easy process.

- Specify if you would like to see the title bar of the player
Media Settings

- Control playlist features such as: Auto Next, Page Link, Shuffle, and Loop
- Set the scroll speed and choose how you would users to interact with the scroll function
- Change the orientation of the playlist from Vertical (default) to Horizontal and enable or disable the playlist for a particular preset.
Node Settings
- Enter a node ID if you would like to load a single node.
Controller Settings
- Select whether or not to show the control bar for this preset. You may also chose to only show the control bar, hiding the rest of the player.
Voter Settings
- This area allows you to control whether or not the voting UI will display in both the node and the teaser display of the player.
Logo Settings
- The MediaFront Module also allows the customization of the logo that displays on the player; you may remove it all together or replace it with a custom by entering the path to the logo in the Logo URL Field provided. As an example, the path to the default logo is: sites/all/modules/mediafront/players/osmplayer/player/logo.png
Other Settings
- You may choose to enable the Debugging protocol for the OSM player. *This is turned off as a default, but can be very useful in troubleshooting any issues you may experience.
- In addition to toggling the Debugging on or off, you may also choose a specific communication protocol. This protocol is set to Auto by default and changing this is recommended as a feature for advanced users.
Step 3: Player to Player
The player-to-player setting on the preset settings page allows for multiple players on a site to connect to each other, an example of this would be if you want to connect an isolated playlist with an isolated player. To enable this feature you must specify on each preset to either be a controller or playlist for its counterpart.
Under the Player to Player section within the Preset settings page select one of the following:
- Make this preset the Control Bar for: select a player preset, which will be listed below.
- Make this preset the Playlist for: select a player preset, which will be listed below.
You must do this for each corresponding player that you wish to pair up. Save the presets and both players should now communicate even though they are not displayed as a single unit.
Displaying the player
There are a few different options for displaying the OSM player through the MediaFront Module. Each occurrence will be outlined as follows:
Step 1: Creating a Block or Page View display
Views can be used to either create a page or block in which the player will be displayed.
- First create a view and label it as “media” or an appropriate name corresponding with the files that you would like the player to display.
- This view can now be used to create any number of blocks or page views on which you would like the OSM player to be displayed.
- Select the type of display you would like to add; Block or Page, and click the Add display button.
- You can now tell this view to display your Preset by clicking on the Unformatted link under Style Settings
- Now select Media Player, and then click on the Override button, and then click on Update button.
- Within the Style settings, select the preset that you wish to show this view in ( probably the one you just setup ), and then press Update
- You can now assign a path and menu item to a Player page or if you chose to create a Block view then you may give it a title if you wish.
- If you created a block view, go to Admin >> Site Building >> Blocks and you will find the Player Block that you just created. This block can now be placed in a block region within your theme, and can be limited to certain pages or users through the Configure menu listed adjacent to the block.
Step 2: Creating a CCK Field
Another option for displaying the player is by creating a CCK field that will control how the player is displayed.
- First go to Admin >> Content Types >> Manage Fields for the content type that you would like the player to be displayed in and create a new field by giving it a Label and Field name. Under Type of Data to Store select Media Player and make sure that Media Player is also displayed under Form element to edit the data.
- Click Save and Save Field Settings on the following page.
- Drag the newly created Media Player Field to the top of the field listings and click save again.
- Finally go to the Display Fields tab and select the player Preset that you wish to be displayed in this field for both the teaser and the node view (you may select hidden for the teaser if you wish), decide if you would like the label to show for the player, and click Save.
Your OSM media player has now been configured with the MediaFront Module and is ready to go in multiple locations on your website. For additional information please check our related documentation for more options on what you can do with the MediaFront Module and the OSM Media Player.
